FLL 2016 Scrimmage at Grand Saline Middle School

This is a FLL robot game mock qualifier/scrimmage hosted by Grand Saline Middle School FLL Robot teams. Rookie teams are highly encouraged to sign up.  This event will be conducted like an actual qualifier.  The only differences will be a slightly smaller field of teams, no judging call backs, and no awards.  All teams will receive game scores, actual judging rubrics for presentations, and additional constructive judge feedback.  This event is a first of its kind in our region and an excellent way to prepare or tune-up for the actual qualifiers.  The event will be held at our middle school.  The physical address is 400 Stadium Drive in Grand Saline, TX 75140.  We are easy to access directly from US Highway 80 E or IH 20 E and then North on State Highways 17 or 19 to US 80.  Travel time varies but will average around one hour to one and a half hours from the central part of the Dallas/Ft.Worth metroplex.  Currently the limit is twenty teams (plus nine from GSMS), but might be expanded depending on need and response.  A waitlist will be available.  GSMS will try their best to service as many interested teams as possible.

What to Bring

Two practice tables will be set up in the pit area, but no mission models will be provided.  Teams can bring their own mat and models to use with the tables or bring your own practice table as well.   Charging stations will be setup within the pit area to charge your robots and laptops.

Concessions

A full service concession stand with hot foods will be available for teams who want to eat lunch on site.  A menu of options and prices will be emailed a few days before.  Stand will be cash only, but I will put together some pre-pay meal options that can be preordered/payed by school check. A few local restaurants options are available off site.

FLL 2016 Kickoff / Team Dynamics Clinic (FCA)

This event is intended for coaches and mentors only.  Please pre-register for the event.

Presented by the Perot Museum and Fellowship Christian Academy   This kickoff provides an introduction for coaches to the FLL® season followed by an informative clinic and discussion on team dynamics and what to expect as a coach or mentor.

The kickoff event is free of charge, but we ask that participants pre-register for the event so that we can communicate event details directly and have an estimate of attendance size.

What are the Kickoffs?

  • These are introductory meetings/presentations where we go over many things you’ll need to know about participating in FLL this season.
  • Generally there are at least two Kickoff sessions each season (one at UTD and one at FCA).  Each coach/mentor only needs to go to one, and it doesn’t matter which one.  Rookie and veteran coaches are welcome at both events.
  • These are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, especially for new coaches/mentors.
  • We will go over exactly how the events and competitions run (rules, policies, what to expect), and there will be Robot Game tables and fields set up with experts there to explain the Robot Game missions and rules.
  • It’s a great opportunity to meet the North Texas FLL community, get your questions answered in person, and figure out exactly what will be happening for us this season.
